Fishing on the Cartecay
I went up to the Balckberry cabin for a weekend of rest and relaxation but little did I know that there was lots on the agenda. After a satisfying float down the rapids over by the bridge I felt the need to explore this river a bit more. When we got back to the cabin I immediatly grabbed my fly rod with it's trusty black nymph fuzzy fly hanging from the eye of my ten foot fly rod. I headed down the rock path to the water and threw my line in a couple of times. Right away I caught a healthy little perch with neon blue marking all over the belly. It wasn't big enough to eat but it did tug on the line pretty good. I kept seeing little nooks underneath tree limbs that I wanted to throw into but I had to get wet to get to them. Before I knew it I was off the dock and in the middle of the river picking off panfish after every five casts. Some of them were eatin size but other ones were so small that Sam wanted to put it in a bowl and name it. After just a half hour of combing the river beds and deeper pockets I pulled in about ten to twelve perch/bluegill. I didnt catch any trout but I didn't expect to either so come prepared with a little bug fly/ medium size hook and a seven to eight foot leader and you will be sure to have a good time. The water was only knee high and the current was very mild so it was easy to walk up to the waterfall but I could see it being a little more difficult as the water rises and temperature drops.
